Take SC-31 south and skip Kings Highway entirely. In July that is the whole advantage. Drivers from Cherry Grove, Crescent Beach, Windy Hill and Tidewater all use the same route, which turns what looks like a cross-town errand into a short run down a fast road.

Under Clean Air Act Section 609, the EPA requires that anyone who repairs or services a motor vehicle A/C system for payment be properly trained and certified by an EPA-approved program.

The same rule requires certified refrigerant handling equipment. That is not paperwork for its own sake. A shop without it either vents refrigerant or guesses at the charge, and an overcharged European system runs hot and takes the compressor with it. We evacuate, measure and recharge to the manufacturer’s specified weight — and we find the leak before adding a thing.

They corrode, then they leak, and a fresh compressor bolted onto a leaking condenser fails all over again. We check the whole loop rather than replacing the loudest part. Cooling fans are the sleeper failure here: when the fan quits, the A/C stops cooling at idle and the engine starts running hot in the same stop-and-go traffic, so you get two problems that look like one.
