Jaguar Repair in Charleston, SC

An F-Pace parked on its bump stops. An XF flashing Restricted Performance halfway across the James Island Connector. Jaguars stay smooth and quiet right up to the minute a chain guide, an air spring or a worn coil reminds you what sits under that hood. Owners drive to our Folly Road shop from West Ashley, Mt. Pleasant, downtown and Johns Island, usually after somebody else guessed and billed for the guess. We have worked on European cars for more than 35 years, and on Charleston Jaguars from this building since 2014. Don’t wait it out.

Quick Takeaways

  • Shop and hours: 1010 Folly Rd, Charleston, on James Island. Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • What breaks most: supercharged 5.0L V8 timing chain guides, air spring and compressor leaks, tired ZF 8-speed fluid, coils and plugs, cam-cover oil seepage.
  • Cost reality: Jaguar parts and labor sit above the industry average, so measuring before ordering parts saves real money on this marque.
  • Parts and fluids: dealership-grade parts and Jaguar-approved synthetic fluids, fitted by ASE-certified technicians.

The supercharged V8 fails in three predictable places

Timing chain guides, ignition coils and cam-cover leaks account for most of what we open up on a 5.0L supercharged Jaguar. The plastic guides and tensioners wear long before the chain itself stretches, and the tell is a brief rattle on cold start that clears once oil pressure builds. Ignore that rattle and the chain jumps a tooth. We replace guides, tensioners, chain and cover seals in one visit, since the labor to reach that timing cover is the real cost of the job.

Coils go next. Under boost a failing coil reads as a stumble at half throttle, a flashing check engine light, or a misfire code on one cylinder — and plugs on a supercharged engine deserve replacement on schedule rather than at failure. AJ-V8 cam covers weep oil down onto hot exhaust, which is that scorched smell at a Folly Road stoplight, while a worn rear main seal leaves spots on the driveway instead. Honest Jaguar oil leak repair starts with UV dye and a lift, never with a parts order.

Air suspension and the ZF 8-speed are the big-ticket items

Both are fixable, and both punish delay. An F-Pace, XJ or XF Sportbrake that squats on one corner overnight and levels out after a mile has a leaking air spring, and the compressor then cooks itself running to cover that leak. Fix the leak first. Bolting a new compressor to a car with a torn bag kills the new compressor too, which is why we pressure-test each corner before quoting air suspension and shock repair.

Jaguar calls the ZF 8-speed fluid a lifetime fill. It isn’t. Cooked fluid shows up as a lumpy 2-3 shift or a gearbox hunting at 40 mph on Maybank Highway, and by then the clutch packs have been swallowing whatever the fluid stopped holding in suspension. Our position: change it by 70,000 miles. A ZF 8-speed fluid and filter service costs a small fraction of a rebuilt gearbox.

A Jaguar that dies over the weekend has a module that won’t sleep

Batteries take the blame; modules cause the problem. Infotainment head units, telematics modules and door modules all have a habit of staying awake after lock-up, and the current they draw will flatten a healthy battery in about three days. So we measure. A parasitic draw test walks the fuse boxes with an amp clamp until resting current drops where factory data says it should, and only then do we condemn a module.

Jaguar repair costs more, and the estimate should show you why

Jaguars ask more of an owner than most cars, and pretending otherwise wastes your money. RepairPal’s 2026 brand figures put the average Jaguar at $1,123 a year in repairs against a $652 all-brand average, with a 14% chance any given repair counts as severe. Shop labor is climbing too — maintenance and repair prices rose 7.0% over the twelve months ending June 2026. So the real question isn’t dealer versus independent. It’s whether anyone measured before ordering parts.

Our process: diagnose, then quote. You get a written estimate before work starts, and if the diagnosis lands somewhere nobody expected, you hear about it before the invoice grows. We fit dealership-grade parts and Jaguar-approved synthetic fluids on oil service, and we won’t price a timing chain job sight unseen.

FAQ

The ECU has cut power to protect something it doesn't trust. Misfires, a dirty throttle body, supercharger or boost sensor faults and gearbox trouble all trigger it. Stored codes point us at the cause. Drive gently to the shop. Don't drive it at all if the engine is stumbling badly.

Dealership-grade parts, and Jaguar-approved synthetic fluid on oil service. Every part gets named on the estimate before you approve it. Cheap substitutes on coils, chain guides and air springs are how one job turns into two.

For maintenance and repair, yes. Documented service with the right parts keeps a factory warranty intact, so keep the invoices. Recalls and warranty claims stay with the dealer, but air springs, timing chains and ride-height resets with factory-level software all happen here on James Island.

Diagnosis comes first, then a realistic timeline before any work starts. Coils, plugs and fluid are short jobs. A supercharged timing chain or a special-order part for an older XK runs longer, and you hear that up front, not on day three.

XE, XF, XJ, F-Type, F-Pace and E-Pace come through most weeks, plus older S-Type, X-Type and XK cars nobody else wants to touch.
